Filipino scientist who has made significant contribution to the Philippine marine biology and ecology. Ephrime is a professor and chairman of the Biological Sciences at Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, in Iligan City. Among his important contributions are: contribution to the largely unexplored aspect of the feeding biology and ecology of the marine micronekton, an important group of organisms that form a major trophic link between zooplankton production and fishery. Analysis of the ecological role in the tropical benthopelagic system of the dominant Philippine micronektonic shrimp, Acetes erythraeus commonly known as the bagoong alamang. Study of food and feeding of Acetes erythraeus as well as their importance to various fish predators. These contributions he made to the Philippine marine biology and ecology have directed strong impacts in sustaining conservation and management of coastal biological resources, that he was chosen one of the Ten Outstanding Young Scientists of 2007 by the National Academy of Science and Technology. Ephrime B. Metillo achieved his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Zoology from the University of Tasmania in Australia.
