Dr. Nelson M. Pampolina is recognized for his important contributions in the field forest fungi. Pampolina is presently an Associate Professor 6 at the Department of Forest Biological Sciences, College of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of the Philippines Los Baños. Nelson obtained his PhD in Environmental Biology from Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia. He finished his MS and BS degrees in Forestry at UPLB. He teaches courses such as Forest Botany, Taxonomy of Forest Seed Plants, Plant Physiology, Fundamentals of Forest Ecology, Introduction to Protected Area Management, Forest Ecology, Forest Mycology, Forest Microbiology and others. Nelson has served as Vegetation Consultant on forestry-based projects and as Terrestrial Ecologist for Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Monitoring of various organizations.

Dr. Patricio P. Palmes is recognized for his various clinical researches made on cardiology and vascular medicine that won not only in local research paper contests but also in international meetings like the outstanding young scientist awards in the ASEAN Congress of Cardiology (1997) and World Congress of Echocardiography (2) of his research papers on new echocardiographic techniques. His investigations using harmonies imaging, anatomic M-Mode and tissue velocity imaging provided better understanding and Insight on the physiology and pathology of the heart.
