Dr. Lalaine f. Yanilla-Aquino is recognized A two-day training on Basic English Grammar and Writing was held at the NAMRIA Lecture Hall on 12 and 26 January 2015. The training was conducted by English Professor Dr. Lalaine F. Yanilla Aquino. Dr. Yanilla Aquino obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Master of Arts degree in Comparative Literature, and Doctorate degree in Reading Education from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. With 49 participants from the various branches, the training aimed to make the participants appreciate more the English language and realize the importance of learning it. It also aimed to further enable the participants to compose articles that follow the basic principles of good writing. In his opening message, GISMB Dir. John Santiago F. Fabic said that the purpose of having the training is to further improve the participants’ English grammar and to develop especially their writing and oral communication skills. Dr. Yanilla Aquino gave various individual and group exercises to the participants. She enjoined them to read a lot every day in order to familiarize themselves with various English words and to be comfortable in using English both in speaking and in writing. At the end of the activity, each of the participants was given a certificate of participation. As a token of appreciation, Dr. Yanilla Aquino was given a framed Centennial Map. In his closing message, Support Services Branch Director Nelson M. De Leon quoted the writer Edgar Allan Poe saying: “A man’s grammar, like Caesar’s wife, should not only be pure, but above suspicion of impurity.”
