Dr. Pablito Magdalita is recognized for his significant contributions in plant breeding, specifically to the development of interspecific hybrids between papaya and its wild relatives to incorporate resistance to the papaya ringspot virus (PRSV), identification of DNA markers in identifying Carica series and their hybrids, varietal development and propagation of papaya, guava, pineapple and chico, and genetic transformation for delayed ripening of papaya.
