Dr.Elbirto Redaña i recognized of his pioneering and vital scientific and technical contributions to the development of hybrid rice in the Philippines, the development of conventional rice genotypes for direct seeded culture, and the application of molecular markers in rice varietal improvement. Dr. Porfirio Recio is recognized for important contributions in the field of was the first surgeon to be elected president of the society with Dr. Esteban Pineda, who was the secretary, they represented the society in the Third Asian Pacific Congress in Melbourne, Australia and won the bid to host the 1972 Asia Pacific Congress. The preparation for the big event was the major highlight of his term. Dr. Recio was elected Chairman of the fourth Asia Pacific Congress of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Asuncion Raymundo is recognized a Professor and currently Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). Previously, she was the Director of the Institute of Biological Sciences, UPLB for 7 years. She completed her BS degree (cum laude)at the UP College of Agriculture, majoring in Soil Microbiology. She received her MS at the University of Hawaii, and her PhD at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Later, she took post-doctoral studies in microbial/molecular genetics at IRRI and had research stints at Monash University, Osaka University and Kansas State University. She is a member of several honor and professional societies, including both the Philippine Society for Microbiology which she served as President and the American Society for Microbiology. A pioneer in microbial genetics and and the use of biotechnology in agriculture in the Philippines, Dr. Raymundo is an assiduous researcher, who has implemented numerous research projects or studies, including some funded by the Rockefeller Foundation, UNIDO and the Australian Centre for International Agriculture. She is a prolific author, having published over a hundred technical articles in refereed journals and proceedings, both local and international, in her field. As Professor, Dr. Raymundo has instituted and taught several courses in microbiology and plant pathology, written a number of laboratory manuals in various courses, and supervised over a hundred undergraduate, masteral and doctoral students. She developed the field of microbial genetics locally. She is active in extension, having served as organizer, coordinator or lecturer in various training courses, workshops, and seminars. In recognition of her work in microbiology, microbial genetics and biotechnology, Dr. Raymundo has received numerous awards, including the National Research Council of the Philippines Distinguished Award in Biology, UPLB Outstanding Teacher and also as Researcher, PCARRD Pantas Outstanding Researcher Award, and the Crop Science of the Philippine Achievement Award in Research, Outstanding Microbiologist Award given by the Philippine Society for Microbiology, Republica Award given by the Commission of Higher Education and the 2007 UP Outstanding Professional Award in Natural Sciences -biology (microbiology). In 2002, she was conferred the status of Academician of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), a select group of eminent Filipino scientists who constitute an advisory group to the Office of the President in matters of science and technology. She currently heads the NAST Bioremediation Task Force and is the NAST focal person in charge of biology education.
