David Penaloza Jr. is currently an associate professor in the Chemistry Department of De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines. Prior to his current position, he served as an assistant professor at Keimyung University in Daegu, South Korea; a research assistant professor in the Department of Applied Chemistry, Kyushu University, Japan and a chemistry instructor in the Department of Chemistry of the Valdosta State University, USA and the Central Luzon State University, Philippines. He finished his Ph.D. Chemistry from the University of Connecticut, USA under the supervision of Prof. Thomas AP Seery doing research on polymer-inorganic nanocomposites via metal-mediated surface-initiated polymerization. David did his postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Prof. Keiji Tanaka of Kyushu University in the area of applied chemistry investigating self-assembled systems (e.g. supramolecular hydrogel, lyotropic LC systems, graphene dispersions, wormlike micelle) as well as surface and interfacial properties of polymers. His research group is focused on various technology platform initiatives such as (1) nanostructured and multiphase materials for smart and functional applications; (2) high-performance polymers and composite materials; (3) water application (membranes for water purification, oil spill recovery, etc.); (4) green/environment-friendly polymer product line and (5) advanced self-assembled systems.
