Dr. Ronald Roll Matias is recognized for his researches on free-living pathogenic amoeba that led to a better understanding of their biology and public health importance in the country, and for his pioneering studies on the molecular epidemiology of the dengue virus which has contributed significantly to the development of basic biomedical research in the Philippines.
