Dr. Gisela Concepcion is recognized for her contributions in marine natural products. Her research led to discovery of new compounds with anticancer, antibacterial, antituberculosis, antimalaria, anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant properties. She also worked on developing targeted drug delivery systems and studies on the biochemistry of cancer and infectious diseases. Her work finds application on chemistry and in other fields like biotechnology, pharmacology, toxicology, phytochemistry, microbiology and medicine. She participates in awareness campaigns on the importance of science, technology, research, and development to its role on economic development.
