Erlinda P. Rillo

Dr. Erlinda P. Rillo is recognized was born on February 21,1943, at Guinobatan, Albay. She finished her B.S. Plant Pathology entrance scholar at the University of the Philippines, College of Agriculture on June 1964. Mrs. Rillo, Scientist IV of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) at the Albay Research Station in Guinobatan, Albay was adjudged Outstanding Agricultural Scientist for her exemplary conduct of study in developing a cloning protocol for coconut, spearheading the Makapuno Comprehensive Technology Development and Commercialization Program and for her involvement in various research undertakings which promoted the production of macapuno and high quality coconut seedlings. She believes that the country can benefit from diversified coconut industry through developing other food and food-products. A pioneer in tissue culture technology, her laboratory work led to the creation of a rapid propagation method for elite palm coconuts. Due to her efforts, the whole region of Bicol is recognized as one of the largest macapuno-producing regions and the PCA-Albay Research Center as one of the most renowned laboratories for coconut embryo and tissue culture studies. Today, there are now six laboratories located in Davao, Zamboanga, Tacloban, Albay, Cavite and Pangasinan that mass-produce macapuno seedlings for wider distribution in the country.
